Bienvenidos Mr. Chairman

The New Mexico GOP congratulates newly elected Chairman Steele in a press release from the weekend.

“The Republican Party of New Mexico offers its sincere congratulations to Michael Steele as he takes over leadership of the Republican Party,” said New Mexico Republican Party Chairman Harvey E. Yates, Jr. “There was great excitement among the party faithful today because they are hopeful about the opportunities before us, and so am I. Chairman Steele is committed to growing this great Party and I am looking forward to working with him in that endeavor. We look forward also to Michael Steele’s next visit to New Mexico.”

New Mexico party chair Harvey Yates sounds optimistic. I hope he actively works with the RNC on developing a better grassroots network, technology, and minority outreach. It is time the GOP makes a serious effort in courting minority voters. The Hispanic vote here in New Mexico is growing and the NM GOP has an embarrassing history with them. The GOP has a tumultuous task at hand but with the election of Steele I am confident a new era is emerging.
