A case for Good Congressman Pearce

Congressman Pearce,

This whole political fallout caused by Senator Domenici's decision has brought chaos to our state. I am a young, sometimes naive college student. I see things the way they are but when facts align themselves with theory it is my job to dissect those facts and circumstances. I believe you are a good pragmatic man. You have served Southern New Mexico faithfully and you have earned the respect of both moderate Democrats and Republicans. You are not a career politician who has been corrupted by the dealings of power. I know that if you decide to run for the Senate race you will have a very good chance at winning it. You will beat Heather Wilson in a primary but she will cost you campaign money and resources. You will face Marty Chavez because Denish and him will make a power pact in the manner that many Democrats do in this state. He is not very popular down here. He has few supporters (besides his arm candy Joni Guiterrez) and even ABQ is'nt so hot about him. So why not run against the Dems of the North and continue, even add to Domenici's legacy: develop your own Legacy but most importantly New Mexico's legacy. Now what could possibly stop you from this decision. Your rising star has taken hold in the congress, people like you as congressman here, your sure to fight for Southern New Mexican issues which entail countless re-election bids for you. Why venture to the unknown state wide politics of Democratic New Mexico: a land of party corruption and patron figures make policy and even yield it to our very own emperor of a Governor. This brings me to your contemplation. You are comfortable where you are but opportunity is knocking on your door. I do believe, along with many, you will be a great Senator but one person stands in your way. Not Heather Wilson, Not Lt. Gov. Denish, Not Marty Chavez but the only man who in New Mexican history who has had the full political blessing of the New Mexican patron and has used this confidence of power to make his own political advancement. Governor William Richardson alias, Billy, Big Bill, King Bill etc... His fingers are dipped in every political puddle in the state. His presidential campaign is not doing well and he will soon realize it is easier to be a big fish in a small pond. He has voiced his desire not to be Senator of New Mexico but this is the man who promised New Mexico was the only thing on his agenda in 2006. I am sure you know not to ever take the Governors word as concrete on any issue. He is the finest politician the state has seen. Machiavelli would be impressed. He stands in your way and his announcement, which I expect in January, will lead to a great political battle. He has no care for Democrats who are seeking the seat, he knows he should be the worthy successor of Domenici and no minimalist Democrat or Southern cowboy Republican will get in his way. This kind of candidate does not deserve the office. A man who serves for self interest is the greatest disease that has infected our modern politics. I believe and have faith that you are the true man for the job. I know you have weighed these cons and pros delicately and because I know you are a good pragmatic man you have my support in whatever decision you make. New Mexico is most in need of people like you; whether it be in city council, the house of representatives or the United State Senate. I support you Congressman Pearce and I want you to know there are many who share my sentiment.

“We are face to face with our destiny and we must meet it with a high and resolute courage. For us is the life of action, of strenuous performance of duty; let us live in the harness, striving mightily; let us rather run the risk of wearing out than rusting out.”- President Theodore Roosevelt

Aaron Henry Diaz

(I was compelled to write this after reading the skeptical writings of many New Mexican bloggers. My writing may be a bit rough but give me a break I just wrote a 20 page essay on American Feminism and Abolition hence I am bit tired, haha)

No Texas tornadoes here: just a good ol New Mexican power vacuum!

Something hotter than our chile made news today; Senator Pete Domenici will not seek re-election in next years election. I am not surprised by his decision but excited to see the political vacuum this will spawn in New Mexico. Democrats and Republicans alike will be aligning themselves with voting caucus' and groups to get the go ahead to run.

If and when the Governor realizes he needs to drop out of the presidential race I do believe he will run for the vacated seat. This speculation that Congressman Udall will run for the seat will only happen when the power player Bill makes his mind up. On the Republican side this leaves the state party with the grand task of offering worthy competition to the Democratic players. Congressman Pearce of the New Mexican second district is a leading up and coming Republican in the state and congress. He is popular amongst conservative Democrats, moderate Republicans, and the GOP of Roswell and Hobbs.

He advocates good decision making based on the greater good. His decisions may not always be popular with the leftist socialist John Wayne "wannabe's" who sit on the Dona Ana county commission, NM Wild, Dona Ana Wild, and this so called "rural revolution"... oh I almost forget about those complaining retired people who watch Las Cruces City Council meetings all day and make notes of what they want to scream about next(please get out of my town people I am tired of your bitchin').

Ok sorry about that I was sidetracked.

It has been speculated in the past year but never really taken seriously that Pearce would run for Domenici's seat. With the Senator's departure it leaves a golden opportunity for the Congressman to fill that void. Heather Wilson was in the South this past summer presumably politikin' for the Domenici vacant seat. While I believe the congressman has not made any public intention on running for Domenici's seat I do know that the state GOP will most likely call upon Pearce to help save and win the seat of Domenici. Wilson will not be asked to run and frankly she will not have the marginal support that pushed her to a skirmished re-election last year against Patricia Madrid.

Which brings me to other possible Democrats piling on for the political suction. Patricia Madrid may be running for Domenici's seat or if Udall pursues that seat she may run for his congressional seat. We can all speculate the moon if we want but we will not know until King Bill decides if he wants seconds here New Mexico. This coming January will be interesting on both sides.

In closing I do want to thank Senator Domenici for his esteemed service to the people of New Mexico and the United States Senate. He is the longest serving Senator in New Mexican history. He arose to the challenge of serving his community and always put New Mexico first. I along with many admire his dedication to our beloved New Mexico. I wish him a well deserved retirement and hope for another great person to arise to this occasion and take the lead, not for the Democratic party or GOP, but for the people of New Mexico. Muchas Gracias Senador Domenici!
