Land and Growth

It is not hard to see the beauty and feel the mystique that makes Las Cruces the paradise in the desert. Our natural beauty along with our distinct cultural influences makes us a great place to live. This is proven by the fact that thousands of new "Crucenos" (Las Crucen in Spanish) have now laid their roots here and they are spreading. This city must grow because growth is progress and it benefits everyone! Now in what manner do we grow is an easy question answered; Fairly, Responsibly, and Safely.

We must not forget our roots. The Mesilla Valley has been the hub of New Mexico's agriculture industry. New Mexico State is a leading research industry for Ag and Animal Sciences. Our crops range from cotton, onions, pecans and of course CHILE! We are proud cattle growers and have always protected our natural enviroment. Any wilderness in Dona Ana will eventually phase out our time honored and respectable lifestyle, and most importantly our past.

The recent wildnerness campaign intiated by the enviromentalist of the world obviously dont see this. They must save the world and promote a one sided argument while ignoring any other suggestions. They promote making Dona Ana County a wilderness which would HALT growth here in Dona Ana; this is wrong and extreme. I do understand why they want it, WE ALL VALUE THE OPEN SPACE; but stoping growth is not natural and will not be a benefit to prosperity of Las Cruces.

We must look at our options and be pragmatic in our pursuit of a balance of responsible growth but also working at preserving our identity here in the Mesilla Valley.

Fred Thompson Deserves a look

I have recently looked at the new Republican Presidential candidate Fred Thompson and I am impressed. I look forward to hearing more from him. Now I am not endorsing him, remember I will make my endorsement by the end of the summer. I am currently considering Bill Richardson, John McCain, and now Fred Thompson. Check his site out, he deserves a look.
